Anthropic signs $35B cloud deal for AI computing in Texas data center
The computing will be hosted in a 350-megawatt facility under construction in Nueces County, Texas, with Nvidia serving as the official tenant.
Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud deal that will provide the Claude maker access to AI computing power hosted in a Texas data center, according to Bisnow. Under the agreement, Anthropic will acquire computing capacity from Lambda, an AI focused “neocloud” provider with Nvidia as a major investor. The deal involves chipmaker Nvidia in multiple roles, including supplying the graphics processing unit chips used to generate the computing power. The computing will be located in a 350-megawatt data center being built in Nueces County, Texas, by Hut 8, which has shifted from bitcoin mining into AI data center development. Bisnow reports that Hut 8 will not lease the data center directly to Lambda, instead Nvidia will be the official tenant and Lambda will receive access to the capacity for an undisclosed sum.
Bisnow said Nvidia’s role is meant to reduce financing risk for the project by effectively guaranteeing the data center’s cash flow, helping Hut 8 secure capital from lenders. The outlet also noted this is not Anthropic’s first Nvidia backed neocloud arrangement, with the company signing a $45 billion deal earlier in the month with Nscale for computing capacity at a West Virginia site under development.
