Michael Saylor raises questions over Strategy resuming Bitcoin purchases
Strategy paused BTC purchases after a June 22 last acquisition, and it has also begun selling some holdings despite owning about 840,447 BTC worth over $72 billion.
Michael Saylor posted an accumulation chart for Strategy Inc. on X, using marked purchase “dots” that, in past cases, appeared ahead of new disclosures the following Monday, fueling speculation that the company could resume Bitcoin buying after more than two months without reported purchases, according to Yahoo Finance.
Strategy, which is described as the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, has paused its BTC acquisitions, with its last reported purchase on June 22. The company previously shifted toward capital raising, strengthening cash reserves, and managing its balance sheet, and it has also begun selling Bitcoin, undercutting a long-standing “never sell” thesis held by some investors.
As of the time of writing, Strategy holds 840,447 BTC, valued at more than $72 billion. Yahoo Finance also notes the company has nearly $9 billion in unrealized losses tied to its Bitcoin holdings.
The renewed attention comes as Bitcoin rebounded in the second half of August, rising to $80,000, with BTC up 23% over the prior month. At publication, BTC was trading at $78,409.33, down 0.2% over 24 hours, while Strategy shares were up 2.18% in Monday pre-market after falling 7.34% to close at $127.31 on Friday, Yahoo Finance reported.
