Verisk rolls out U.S. data center exposure database for insurers
The database covers more than 2,500 U.S. facilities and is aimed at improving risk capital flows as data center premiums are projected to nearly double by 2030.
Verisk has launched a dedicated U.S. Data Center Exposure Database to help insurers, reinsurers, and brokers understand and manage the growing concentration of risk from the U.S. data center build out, as AI-driven infrastructure spending expands.
The opportunity is seen as a major new premium driver for the insurance, reinsurance, and insurance-linked securities (ILS) industries, with Verisk citing estimates that global data center insurance premiums could rise from about $10 billion in 2026 to as much as $23 billion by 2030.
Verisk said its new database includes building-level geocoding, facility footprints, physical characteristics, and operational attributes for more than 2,500 data center facilities across the United States, and it can support workflows in its Synergy Studio and Touchstone products.
The company added that the scale of insurance limits needed for these campuses has stretched industry capacity and that the reinsurance market has not yet provided enough support, driving interest in using capital markets, including ILS, to back coverage for peak catastrophe and severe weather exposures.
Verisk also characterized AI as increasingly tied to physical infrastructure, noting that the facilities powering that growth require better exposure information to manage risk and help move capital through primary underwriting, reinsurance, and the capital markets.
