Hargreaves Lansdown launches bitcoin and crypto ETN trading after earlier doubts
The UK firm says crypto ETNs are high risk and volatile, and it previously warned customers against buying bitcoin.
Hargreaves Lansdown has reversed course on crypto and rolled out trading in bitcoin and other crypto exchange-traded notes, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
The Bristol, UK-based investment firm previously told customers bitcoin was too volatile and warned about buying it, but its current offering includes ETNs that track the prices of digital assets and trade on stock exchanges.
Bitcoin Magazine reports that Hargreaves Lansdown now notes that crypto ETNs are considered high risk and may be volatile.
The publication also points to a broader shift in the US, noting that the Securities and Exchange Commission approved bitcoin exchange-traded funds for investors in 2024 after years of rejecting the products.
