Ivans Index shows higher commercial auto, BOP and liability renewal rates
The August 2026 reading pointed to month over month declines in most lines, with only Workers’ Compensation renewal rates rising.
Ivans announced its August 2026 results for the Ivans Index, an industry premium renewal rate gauge that tracks year over year changes for major commercial lines. The index measures premium differences for a single consistent policy across Commercial Auto, Business Owner’s Policy, General Liability, Commercial Property, Umbrella and Workers’ Compensation.
According to the monthly results, year over year renewal rates increased for Commercial Auto, BOP, General Liability, Commercial Property and Umbrella, while Workers’ Compensation renewal rates decreased. On a month over month basis, renewal rates fell for Commercial Auto, BOP, General Liability, Commercial Property and Umbrella, while Workers’ Compensation was the only line showing an increase.
Ivans said the index is released monthly and is based on more than 120 million data transactions. It reflects renewal rate change trends across more than 38,000 agencies and 700 carriers and MGAs in the U.S. market.
The Ivans Index uses a data-driven approach to assess premium renewal rate change for the most placed commercial lines of business in insurance. Ivans also noted the index is available via its Market Insights platform.
