U.S. denies Iran claim after attacks near Strait of Hormuz

The latest exchange of attacks came as Brent crude pushed to $100 a barrel, keeping oil market risk premiums elevated near the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States rejected Iran’s claim that it struck two American vessels, as both sides continued exchanging attacks in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz, according to CNBC Markets.

CNBC World reports that the dispute unfolded alongside a jump in global oil prices, with Brent crude reaching $100 a barrel during the renewed tensions.

With the shipping chokepoint under scrutiny, traders appeared to price in heightened delivery and supply risk tied to the conflict in the region, CNBC added.
