Louis Dreyfus net sales rise in first half as volumes increase
For the six months ended June 30, the company reported EBITDA of $1.036 billion, up 5.0% year over year, as its value chain segment earnings climbed.
Louis Dreyfus Co. (LDC) said its net sales rose 2.3% year over year to $26.8 billion in the six-month period ended June 30, driven primarily by higher volumes, which increased 2.7%. The company also reported EBITDA of $1.036 billion, up from $987 million a year earlier.
LDC attributed the results to what it described as a diversified portfolio, global footprint, and risk management approach. It said segment operating results increased 2.5% to $1.248 billion, supported by its Value Chain Segment, which generated earnings of $856 million, up from $803 million.
The Value Chain Segment saw net sales increase 9.5%, with growth tied to the Grains and Oilseeds Platform, including higher net sales for beans and vegetable oils. LDC also pointed to corn improvement amid volatility linked to energy markets, while wheat shipments increased but performance was affected by execution challenges related to regional conflicts in the Middle East and the Black Sea.
In contrast, LDC said its Merchandizing Segment net sales fell 13% year over year due to lower volumes shipped and lower average sales prices for coffee, rice, and sugar, partly offset by strength in cotton. The company reported it invested $421 million during the period, mostly to expand oilseeds processing capacity and further integrate agri-food value chains.
