Iran warns any new strike could broaden conflict toward the Indian Ocean
OilPrice notes crude and heating oil were rising as the adviser warned Tehran’s response could extend beyond the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz.
Iran warned the United States that any renewed attack could lead to a wider conflict that reaches the Indian Ocean, according to OilPrice. The threat was delivered by Yahya Rahim Safavi, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who said the front could expand further in response to additional war.
OilPrice said the conflict has already spread from the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea, and Safavi suggested that escalation could extend to the Indian Ocean and potentially beyond. The story also highlighted Diego Garcia, a strategic British military base heavily used by the United States, as being located deep in the Indian Ocean.
OilPrice added that Safavi’s comment was the first time an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader explicitly mentioned hitting targets in the Indian Ocean as a heightened threat. It also referenced previous reports of missiles aimed at the base, including Diego Garcia being targeted on March 21, though details on outcomes were described as unclear.
OilPrice included market snapshots showing oil prices and related energy contracts moving higher, including WTI and Brent, alongside gains in natural gas and heating oil. The article framed the warning as part of a broader risk of escalation after earlier regional spillovers involving Saudi-led forces and Yemen’s Houthis.
