Hong Kong cuts lantern display entry during Mid-Autumn crowds

Authorities closed entry queues around 9 p.m. on Friday, while lantern installations at Victoria Park stayed on display until Oct. 4.

Hong Kong tourism authorities shortened opening hours for a lantern display at Victoria Park in Causeway Bay due to public safety concerns after large crowds arrived to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, according to SCMP Economy.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board said entry queues for the event, “World Lantern Boulevard,” would be closed shortly, citing the large number of visitors and the need for public safety and order.

The board added that all lantern installations at the International Lantern Spectacular would remain on display until October 4, and it urged visitors to come at an alternative time.
