Piedmont Healthcare seeks approval to relocate Newton Hospital site

Piedmont Healthcare is seeking regulatory approval to relocate its Piedmont Newton Hospital to a new Metro Atlanta site, with the project valued at nearly $600M, according to Bisnow.

The company filed a letter of determination with the Georgia Department of Community Health to move the hospital about 2 miles from its current location, citing limits at the existing facility due to its age.

Bisnow reports that Piedmont said the current site is licensed for 128 beds, and that the relocation hospital would expand access to high-quality care while supporting planned growth in Newton County along the I-20 corridor.

Piedmont said it plans to cover the full cost of construction, and it is pursuing the letter of determination to seek state sign off without going through Georgia’s certificate-of-need process, which limits the number of healthcare providers in an area.
