Compass asks MLSs to exclude its listing data from recruiting tools

Compass requested MLSs confirm their data feeds and provide an opt-out from IDX and VOW distribution within 30 days.

Compass is asking local MLSs to exclude Compass listing and agent data from feeds provided to brokerage recruiting software vendors. HousingWire reports the request was sent in a letter to MLSs earlier this week and seeks confirmation of which data feeds are shared.

According to HousingWire, Compass asked for an opt-out from non-IDX and VOW data distribution and for action within 30 days. The letter also argues the MLS exists to facilitate real estate transactions, not to share operational data in a way Compass says could enable competitor poaching.

HousingWire reports Compass said it supports MLS data sharing for cooperation but objects to its data being sold to a technology company that then further sells it using agent recruitment tools.

Compass did not immediately respond to HousingWire for comment on the letter, HousingWire said.
