Nifty 50 slips after seventh straight weekly decline, technicals cited
The Nifty 50 fell nearly 384 points to 23,063 on Thursday and India VIX jumped sharply during the Sept. 21 to 25, 2026 week.
Mehul Kothari of Anand Rathi said India’s Nifty 50 is trading around the 23,000 to 23,100 support zone and that the index’s daily chart is showing positive divergence, suggesting the downside move may be nearing its final phase.
In a recap of market action, LiveMint Markets reported that the Nifty 50 saw a sharp sell-off on Thursday, dropping nearly 384 points to 23,063, which the outlet said was its lowest level in several months.
The report attributed the sell-off to rising US bond yields, crude oil pushing above $100, a weaker rupee, and broad-based selling in financial stocks, with India VIX rising sharply.
According to the same technical view, Kothari noted the index has logged a seventh consecutive weekly decline, an unusual streak, while Markets recovered marginally on Friday but finished the week lower, with global yields, elevated crude, and risk-off sentiment still weighing.
