Fees top £1.2bn as UK takeover frenzy drives dealmaking surge

The value of mergers and acquisitions of UK-listed companies rose about 175% in 2026 to $132.9bn, with fees paid to bankers, lawyers and accountants exceeding £1.2bn.

London’s investment bankers, lawyers, and accountants have earned more than £1bn from the current wave of takeover deals, reflecting record deal activity in the UK, according to the Guardian Business.

The outlet said the value of mergers and acquisitions involving UK-listed companies rose to about £100bn in 2026, up 175% from the prior year, reaching $132.9bn.

It also reported that fees paid to investment bankers, lawyers, and accountants working on these deals topped £1.2bn as overseas buyers snapped up British companies at a record pace, a development that has drawn anger over high City pay during the cost of living crisis.
