US soybean farmers call China import exclusion a missed opportunity
China ramped up purchases of US soybeans ahead of last week’s Xi Jinping and Donald Trump summit, even though soybeans were left off the import list tied to a new Board of Trade mechanism.
US soybean farmers said the exclusion of US soybeans from China’s import list under a newly announced Board of Trade mechanism is a “missed opportunity,” even as Beijing increased purchases of the crop ahead of last week’s summit between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump, according to SCMP Economy.
The trade forum, unveiled by both sides on Sunday, covered a range of US agricultural products for export to China, including meat, dairy, corn, wheat, sorghum and vegetable oils, but left soybeans off the list.
John Bartman, an Illinois-based fifth-generation soybean farmer, said the move means a missed opportunity for American soybean farmers.
