China to fund scientists under 35 with 15-year research grants
The National Natural Science Foundation of China will choose researchers under 35, with no short-term performance reviews during the 15-year funding period.
China is offering 15-year research grants for scientists under 35, aiming to support free exploration as it accelerates efforts to become a global science powerhouse, according to SCMP Economy.
Dou Xiankang, director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, said the agency is selecting a group of the brightest researchers for long-term financial backing, with the sole performance metric over 15 years being whether they are in the laboratory.
He said the funded researchers would not face short-term performance reviews, and the assessment would focus only on their physical presence in the lab.
