Edens secures $850M in commitments for retail purchases and developments

The Washington, D.C. retail developer said the capital will support new acquisitions and investment in its existing portfolio of 93 open-air and mixed-use centers serving 15 million consumers daily.

Edens, a retail real estate developer, has secured $850M in new equity commitments for upcoming developments and acquisitions across its national portfolio, according to a Monday press release cited by Bisnow.

The company plans to deploy the capital on new purchases and to invest in its existing collection of 93 open-air and mixed-use centers that reach 15 million consumers daily. Edens did not outline how much of the funding would go to new development versus buying additional assets, it said.

Edens also noted that it acquired the Forum Carlsbad shopping center in California in 2026, while focusing on existing and select growth markets. Bisnow reported the company’s gross asset value tops $7B.

In the same update, Bisnow said the U.S. retail sector remains in growth mode even after bankruptcies and closures last year put roughly 127M square feet of retail space back on the market.
