Spain coalition agrees proposals to ban evictions until 2030

Spain’s coalition government said it has agreed on proposals to address the country’s housing crisis, including banning evictions until 2030.
The announcement came as the 87-year-old woman whose forced removal last week triggered protests, Maricarmen Abascal, accepted an offer to return home. Hundreds of people remained camped in one of Madrid’s main squares on Tuesday.
Protesters were calling for legal reforms that include a rent freeze and the automatic renewal of leases without abusive rent hikes, according to the report.
