Robotaxi firms expand leased industrial space faster than earlier years

In 2026, robotaxi companies have leased nearly 1.0M SF of industrial space, surpassing the total leased in 2022 to 2025 combined, according to Cushman & Wakefield data cited by Bisnow.

Robotaxi companies are expanding their industrial real estate footprint quickly, with leasing in 2026 running ahead of the combined total from 2022 through 2025, according to Cushman & Wakefield data cited by Bisnow. The article says Lyft, Uber, Alphabet-owned Waymo and Amazon-owned Zoox have signed leases for nearly 1.0M SF of industrial space this year, while those companies leased a combined 830,000 SF between 2022 and 2025.

These facilities are described as serving functions such as storing, cleaning, charging and repairing robotaxi fleets, pointing to a growing demand for industrial space tied to autonomous vehicle operations, the outlet reported. Bisnow also notes that while robotaxis were allowed to operate in 26 states as of June, the companies' real estate deals are not limited to only those markets with regulatory approval to begin operating.
