AI in mortgage lending needs rigorous testing and human oversight

HousingWire notes SitusAMC’s Julia Curran says mortgage AI must be validated with subject-matter expertise to avoid errors that can affect borrowers, lenders, and secondary-market investors.

Artificial intelligence is creating opportunities to automate parts of the mortgage process, including analyzing more data and reducing manual work across the loan lifecycle, HousingWire reports.

But in an industry where inaccurate information can have serious consequences for borrowers, lenders, and secondary-market investors, HousingWire says mortgage AI requires more than selecting an AI model and deploying it.

HousingWire, citing SitusAMC’s Julia Curran, argues that mortgage leaders should recognize that not all AI is the same, and that the market needs AI to handle complex tasks rather than simple data extraction or comment summarization.

Curran, who has spent more than 40 years across origination, secondary markets, servicing, and mortgage technology, says adoption should pair rigorous mortgage AI testing with subject-matter expertise and ongoing human judgment.
