China issues demerits, dismisses kindergarten kitchen staff after hygiene scandal
Authorities said several children at a Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology-affiliated kindergarten developed nausea and vomiting during and after lunch on June 30.
Local Chinese authorities issued warnings and demerits to 11 officials and dismissed the entire kitchen staff at a kindergarten after a teacher raised concerns about unsanitary practices, including washing dirty mops in cooking pots, according to SCMP Economy.
On June 30, several children at the Affiliated Kindergarten of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in Jiangsu province experienced symptoms such as nausea and vomiting during and after lunch, the outlet reported.
Parents had asked about the kindergarten’s hygiene during the summer break, but SCMP Economy said they did not receive an official response until September.
