China urges support for live-action dramas as AI reshapes microdramas
The National Radio and Television Administration said live-action dramas should be the “mainstay” of higher-quality production as AI boosts output but raises copyright concerns.
China’s broadcasting regulator has called for stronger support for live-action dramas as officials try to steer China’s fast-growing microdrama industry toward higher-quality production and stronger rights protections amid the rise of artificial intelligence, according to SCMP Economy.
The National Radio and Television Administration said AI has expanded the scale and efficiency of microdrama production, but it has also intensified concerns over copyright and increased pressure on human creators.
Wang Xiaoliang, who oversees the department managing online audiovisual content, said live-action dramas are the mainstay of high-quality production and should be strongly supported, citing the “new challenge” created by AI.
