Kuala Lumpur tops global pollution ranking as haze persists
IQAir data showed Kuala Lumpur’s AQI at 166, while Singapore ranked third with an AQI of 155, both in the unhealthy range above 150.
Kuala Lumpur was ranked the world’s most polluted major city on Wednesday, according to Swiss air quality monitor IQAir, as smoke from wildfires in neighbouring Indonesia continued to shroud the region for more than a month.
The episode pushed Kuala Lumpur to an Air Quality Index reading of 166 early on Wednesday, while nearby Singapore placed third with an AQI of 155, South China Morning Post reported.
AQI is used to convert pollutant measurements into a single figure tied to air quality and potential health risks, with readings above 150 classified as unhealthy and levels above 300 considered hazardous, according to the same report.
