Charter Space raises $5 million in seed round
The seed round increases total funding to $8 million and follows a May 2026 launch of its nationally licensed insurance brokerage.
Charter Space, an El Segundo, California space insurance brokerage, raised $5 million in a seed round, bringing its total funding to $8 million, according to Coverager.
The company launched its nationally licensed insurance brokerage, Charter Interplanetary Risk Corporation, in May 2026 and says it serves more than 50 companies across the US space and defense industrial base to secure commercial insurance and specialty space asset coverage.
Charter Space reports a backlog of more than $35 million in gross written premiums and plans to use the funding to expand distribution, grow its sales team, and broaden its insurance offerings.
The company targets coverage from pre-launch transport and testing through launch and post-separation operations, including in-space servicing, space-based nuclear power, and lunar resource utilization.
