China targets more than fourfold increase in AI compute capacity by 2030
The plan is driven by a need to expand intelligent computing capacity despite US limits on importing the most advanced Western-made AI chips.
SCMP Economy reports that China has set a five-year goal to expand intelligent computing capacity to support artificial intelligence.
The target calls for a more than fourfold increase from the level in place at the end of June this year, with a broader aim to reach a 2030 goal.
According to SCMP Economy, reaching the 2030 target while China is blocked by the United States from importing the most advanced Western-made AI chips will require innovation and adaptation, including the application and co-development of enabling approaches.
