Hong Kong commerce chief says firms still investing from US and UK

InvestHK helped 516 overseas and mainland Chinese companies set up or expand in Hong Kong in the first eight months of 2026, with the US and UK behind mainland China by company count.

Hong Kong’s commerce minister said companies from the United States and the United Kingdom continue to come to the city for investment and business expansion, arguing that capital follows opportunity despite geopolitical risks, according to an interview with the South China Morning Post.

The minister described 2026 as a very challenging year due to the geopolitical situation, but said InvestHK has supported 516 overseas and mainland Chinese companies to set up or expand in Hong Kong in the first eight months of the year.

In that tally, mainland China led with 307 companies, while the US contributed 27 and the UK 21. Singapore accounted for 29 companies, the minister said, alongside the claim that “money is money.”
