Compass CEO says federal antitrust lawsuit will target CRMLS

Compass says the suit is aimed at rules it says allow agents to face fines for public marketing of office exclusive listings.

Compass International Holdings CEO Robert Reffkin said Compass is preparing a federal antitrust lawsuit targeting California Regional MLS, calling it the first legal target in the firm’s dispute over MLS rules, according to HousingWire.

Reffkin said CRMLS previously allowed public marketing of office exclusive listings, and he linked Compass’s demand to concerns about agents being fined for that marketing.

CRMLS, in response, said its policy is designed to protect equal access and that it is organizing an industry legal defense fund.

The dispute also centers on MLS submission timing and how public marketing and office exclusive listing rules are applied, HousingWire reported.
