Urban Land Institute assesses Downtown Los Angeles challenges
The Urban Land Institute’s advisory program aims to develop ideas to help resuscitate Downtown Los Angeles amid concerns ranging from public safety to a deteriorating public realm.
For at least six years, Commercial Observer reports it has been harder to find investors with positive sentiment about Los Angeles than to sell Los Angeles Chargers season tickets, even as other West Coast cities have seen momentum.
In mid-September, the outlet says the Urban Land Institute convened its Advisory Services Program to evaluate Downtown Los Angeles and to present ideas and initiatives to resuscitate the beleaguered urban core.
Commercial Observer also reports the program presentation began with three market challenges, including helping the unhoused community, tackling crime, and addressing a deteriorating public realm.
The article notes that while the Greater Los Angeles area would rank among the world’s 20 largest economies if it were a country, doing business there remains difficult and expensive relative to other jurisdictions.
