US seeks to revoke citizenship of two men convicted in China-linked cases
The DOJ said the denaturalisation filings are part of its largest batch under the Trump administration, with civil cases still pending and no liability determination yet.
The US Justice Department is seeking to revoke the citizenship of two men convicted in cases tied to Beijing, including a former Navy sailor and a Florida man, the DOJ announced on Monday, according to SCMP Economy.
Jinchao Wei and Ping Li are among 40 people facing denaturalisation actions, which the DOJ described as the largest batch of such filings under the Trump administration.
The DOJ said the civil proceedings are still pending, with no determination of liability, and noted that Wei’s case was filed on September 30 in the Southern District of California, while Li’s was filed on October 1 in the Middle District of Florida.
SCMP Economy reported that Wei was convicted of espionage and export offences in August 2025 and sentenced in January to 200 months in prison, or 16 years and eight months, and that the same jury acquitted him of naturalisation fraud.
