Amazon secures global Emmy streaming rights in six-year deal

The new deal starts in 2027 and will stream the Emmy Awards live for free worldwide each September, without requiring a Prime Video subscription.

Amazon Prime Video has secured exclusive global rights to stream the Emmy Awards under a six-year agreement, ending the ceremony's run on traditional US broadcast television, according to BBC Business.

The agreement replaces a previous system that rotated the gala among major US networks such as ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, and it takes effect in 2027.

Starting in 2027, the Emmys will stream live for free worldwide each September, and Prime Video subscription will not be required. Official terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BBC Business reports that the Television Academy chair said the arrangement brings the ceremony onto modern platforms, while Forrester research director Mike Proulx said the prior structure was out of step with how streaming content is driving viewing habits.
