DHS buys three Adelanto detention facilities from Geo Group for $950M

The deal covers 2,644 beds across three ICE-serving facilities in California and follows DHS spending about $240M per year to reopen closed sites with Geo and CoreCivic.

The Department of Homeland Security is expanding its detention footprint with a nearly $1 billion purchase from The Geo Group, according to Bisnow.

Geo announced that three Adelanto, California facilities were sold for $950M, with Desert View Annex, the Adelanto West ICE Processing Center, and the Adelanto East ICE Processing Center totaling 2,644 beds.

Bisnow reports the facilities already serve Immigration and Customs Enforcement and that Geo has been involved with the federal government to hold migrants for decades.

The outlet also notes that DHS is paying Geo and CoreCivic a combined $240M a year to reopen closed facilities, and Geo said it remains in talks to sell additional ICE facilities, though no future sales were confirmed.
