CRMLS sues Compass over MLS cooperation rules and antitrust claims
CRMLS filed its case in New York’s Southern District of New York and asked for a declaration that its Cooperation Rules do not violate antitrust laws, plus an order permanently barring Compass from pursuing related claims.
HousingWire reports that California Regional MLS (CRMLS) has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against Compass, seeking a declaratory judgment and injunctive relief tied to CRMLS rules.
According to HousingWire, the MLS is asking the court to state that its Cooperation Rules do not violate state and federal antitrust laws, and to permanently enjoin Compass from bringing or pursuing claims alleging the rules violate antitrust law.
HousingWire also reports the dispute is occurring against a backdrop of Compass setting an Oct. 6 deadline for MLSs to stop fining agents for publicly marketing office exclusive listings, and CRMLS’s lawsuit comes after Compass sent a Sept. 8 demand letter threatening legal action.
HousingWire says CRMLS publicly rejected Compass’s demands last week, and the filing follows a series of threats made by Compass and its CEO Robert Reffkin.
