Massachusetts nominates 104 census tracts for opportunity zone tax breaks
The Healey administration nominated 104 tracts across 46 municipalities from a pool of 414 eligible census tracts for the second iteration of the opportunity zone program.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey’s administration unveiled a proposed map of census tracts eligible for the second iteration of the federal opportunity zone program, which provides tax breaks intended to steer investment to lower-income areas, according to Bisnow.
The state nominated 104 census tracts across 46 municipalities out of 414 tracts it could have selected, and the administration released separate comments for each chosen tract detailing development potential and where it expects existing projects or developer interest.
Officials said the nominations include areas beyond the Boston region, including census tracts aimed at “anchoring” rural parts of central and western Massachusetts, as described by Bisnow.
