Prabowo appoints 26 advisers to a presidential advisory council
The council, which has been vacant since Prabowo took office in October 2024, is filled with 26 political figures, civil society representatives, Muslim leaders, businessmen and activists.
Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto has designated 26 political figures, civil society representatives, Muslim leaders, businessmen and activists to a presidential advisory council that has been vacant since he became president in October 2024, according to SCMP Economy.
Analysts cited by SCMP Economy said the move is intended to keep potential rivals within Prabowo’s inner circle amid growing political pressure.
SCMP Economy reports the council advises the president on government policy direction but has no power to set or control policy.
A political analyst with the Indonesian Survey Institute said the appointments bring influential figures, connections and mass followings into Prabowo’s orbit, aiming to reduce the building of opposition outside that circle.
