China researchers develop catalyst to make sustainable jet fuel at scale
A techno-economic analysis tied to a proposed 100,000 tonnes per year plant projects a gross profit margin above 50%.
SCMP Economy reports that Chinese researchers have developed a catalyst designed to convert synthesis gas into sustainable jet fuel.
The work is described as a potential boost to production while supporting net-zero carbon goals, with the researchers saying their approach could deliver a gross profit margin above 50%.
According to the report, the team validated the catalyst in a thousand-tonne pilot test and estimated results using a techno-economic analysis for a planned 100,000 tonnes per year jet fuel plant.
The researchers published the findings in Nature Communications in September, citing pilot results and positive techno-economic and life-cycle assessments as support for industrial deployment.
