Foreign investors withdrew ₹31,282 crore from Indian stocks in early October
NSDL data show FPIs sold heavily after September outflows of ₹35,857 crore, as inflation concerns, higher crude prices, and elevated US Treasury yields weighed on sentiment.
Foreign portfolio investors stepped up selling in India in early October, withdrawing ₹31,282 crore from Indian equities in the first five trading sessions, according to NSDL data cited by LiveMint Markets.
The outlet said the October outflows came after overseas investors sold ₹35,857 crore worth of Indian equities in September, with the pressure building alongside rising inflation concerns.
LiveMint Markets linked the move to a mix of global and domestic factors, including escalating tensions in the Middle East that lifted crude prices, US Treasuries staying near multi-decade highs, and a weaker rupee.
On the policy front, the outlet said the RBI raised interest rates, joining other central banks including the US Federal Reserve, the Bank of Japan, and the European Central Bank, while poor monsoon rains tied to El Niño added to price pressures.
