HUD selects NIBS for 12-month push on factory-built multifamily housing
HousingWire reports the initiative is intended to clarify safety and performance expectations while tackling financing and regulatory barriers for factory-built multifamily projects.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has selected the National Institute of Building Sciences and partner MOD X for a 12-month initiative focused on expanding factory-built construction in multifamily housing, according to HousingWire.
The effort will have NIBS and MOD X develop a framework for how factory-built multifamily construction should meet safety and performance expectations, while also working through financing and regulatory obstacles that can slow approvals.
HousingWire reports the initiative will bring together experts from government, industry, building science, engineering, finance, and code development to build a technical foundation that could support future HUD policy or program changes related to factory-built multifamily projects.
