Survey finds most insurers expect fully autonomous AI within 2 to 3 years

The new Sapiens Insurance AI Maturity Index is based on responses from 475 senior insurance professionals across multiple regions, and will benchmark adoption toward agentic AI.

Sapiens International Corporation N.V. has launched the inaugural Sapiens Insurance AI Maturity Index, an industry-wide study meant to benchmark how insurance carriers are adopting artificial intelligence and autonomous decision-making.

According to Reinsurance News, the Index was conducted by Research in Finance (RiF) and launched at Sapiens Ignite 2026, and it aims to help insurers map their progression from automation to AI and agentic AI adoption.

RiF surveyed 475 senior insurance professionals across the United Kingdom and Ireland, the Nordics, Benelux, South Africa, and North America, split across life and property and casualty providers.

In the first results, 67% of respondents said AI in insurance will be fully autonomous within the next two to three years, highlighting urgency around the technology, Reinsurance News reported.
