Cold Lake First Nations challenges Canada’s designation for new pipeline

Cold Lake First Nations is challenging the Canadian federal government’s decision to designate Canada’s new oil pipeline project to the West Coast as a project of national interest, according to OilPrice.

The federal government designated the pipeline last week, and Canada and Alberta are advancing the project in partnership as a national interest initiative meant to fast track development.

OilPrice frames the dispute as part of a broader contest over how the pipeline is treated under federal review and approval, with the First Nations group pushing back against that designation.

The report also notes current market context for oil prices, including quoted levels for WTI and Brent alongside the coverage of the pipeline challenge.
