Trump sets committee to investigate Fed governor Lisa Cook

The White House plans an in person hearing on 5 November that will be closed to the public, and Cook will be allowed to submit a written statement.

Donald Trump announced he is establishing a committee to investigate Lisa Cook, a Federal Reserve governor, over allegations that she committed mortgage fraud, renewing his efforts to remove her after the Supreme Court blocked a prior attempt. Guardian Business reports that the June Supreme Court ruling found the earlier firing unconstitutional.

Trump said the committee will consult with Justice Department officials to determine whether there is cause for her removal. The White House will hold an in person hearing on 5 November, which will be closed to the public but transcribed and published, according to Guardian Business.

Cook will have the opportunity to submit a written statement to present her evidence, and she will be subject to examination from the White House and her own legal counsel, the report added. CNBC Real Estate previously noted that Trump tried to fire Cook, a nominee of former President Joe Biden, but the Supreme Court blocked his first attempt.
