Century Communities buys History Maker Homes, Mitchell family keeps land

The Mitchell family split its homebuilding business from its land development and build-to-rent operations, keeping Jabez Development and ONM Living.

HousingWire reports that Century Communities acquired History Maker Homes to add Dallas-Fort Worth scale, while the Mitchell family retained its land development and build-to-rent businesses.

The report says the Mitchell family sold the homebuilding business but kept Jabez Development and ONM Living, separating vertical construction from land development to pursue greater capital efficiency and reduce risk between the two segments.

HousingWire adds that Jabez will continue developing selected communities for Century and plans to pursue additional land opportunities together.

The outlet also notes the family has operated across roughly 25,000 homes over five generations, and made the strategic shift to focus on a different residential real estate segment.
