Gas prices expected to stay higher for longer, even if oil falls
A constrained refining system leaves fuel markets with little ability to absorb an oil price drop, keeping prices elevated.
WSJ Markets reports that gasoline and other fuel prices are likely to remain higher for longer, even if oil prices decline.
The outlet points to strained refining capacity as a key factor, saying fuel markets do not have much buffer if crude becomes cheaper.
With less spare ability to turn crude into finished fuel, price relief may not flow through quickly from oil to gasoline, according to WSJ Markets.
