Sydney airport probe launched after Jetstar-Qatar near collision
The incident injured a cabin crew member and damaged the connection between a Qatar Airways 777 nose gear and the aircraft tug, disrupting operations at Australia’s busiest airport.
Safety regulators in Australia launched an investigation into a reported near collision between two passenger aircraft at Sydney Airport, a situation that caused abrupt stops and disrupted airport operations, according to SCMP Economy.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said a Jetstar Airbus A320 was taxiing for a flight to the Gold Coast when the crew noticed a Qatar Airways Boeing 777 being towed by an aircraft tug in close proximity on a crossing taxiway.
The ATSB said a cabin crew member on the Jetstar plane was injured, and there was damage to the connection between the 777 nose gear and the tug after both aircraft stopped abruptly.
Investigators are collecting data from both aircraft, air traffic control, and interviews with crew and tug operators, and the regulator is also asking airport witnesses to submit any video of the incident.
