Hong Kong wins top prize at Silicon Valley invention festival
Amonova's solar powered air to fertiliser system took the Grand Prix, aiming to cut farms’ dependence on large fertiliser plants and international supply chains.
Hong Kong innovators won the top prize and 35 medals at the Silicon Valley International Invention Festival, which ended Sunday at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California, according to SCMP Economy.
The city’s delegation collected 22 gold and 13 silver medals, along with eight special awards, with Amonova’s regenerative, solar powered air to fertiliser production platform capturing the festival’s Grand Prix and a special prize from the China Association of Inventions.
SCMP Economy reports that the technology uses air, water and renewable energy to produce nitrogen fertiliser locally, a design intended to reduce farms’ reliance on large production plants and international supply chains.
Amonova founder Simson Wu said the system effectively shrinks a large fertiliser plant into a small machine for use directly on farms, giving farmers more control over production, SCMP Economy added.
