Manga Hotels buys Chelsean New York for $50 million

The 21-story, 158-key property at 158-162 West 25th Street could be repositioned for uses beyond hospitality, the Commercial Observer notes.

Manga Hotel Group has acquired the Chelsean New York Hotel for $50 million, Commercial Observer reports, citing a deed transfer in property records made public Monday.

The deal covers the 158-key hotel at 158-162 West 25th Street. The outlet says the building could potentially be repositioned into a number of uses, and notes that Manga also has residential real estate ambitions.

Commercial Observer adds this is the second transaction between the buyer and the Lam Generation, led by Jeffrey Lam, in a little over a year.

The outlet says Manga previously bought the 160-key hotel at 54 Watts Street, also known as the SoHo 54 Hotel, for $56 million in February 2025, and that the Chelsean was constructed in 2001 after being acquired as a development site in 1999 for $1.6 million.
