New grain transloading facility opens at Baltimore port
The nearly four-acre site can load more than 200 containers per week and targets an annual export capacity of 275,000 tonnes.
A new grain transloading facility has opened at the Seagirt Marine Terminal in Baltimore, with construction completed after work began in April, according to World Grain.
The full-service grain elevator, built in partnership with Frey Commodities and Ports America Chesapeake, is designed to load more than 200 containers per week and support an annual export capacity of 275,000 tonnes, with three grain silos providing 60,000 bushels of storage.
The project handles multiple commodities including soybeans, corn, wheat, sorghum, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, and DDGS, and it brings inbound shipping by truck and rail. World Grain also says shortline rail access to CSX and Norfolk Southern is expected to strengthen export connectivity for grain farmers and US Midwest soybean crush facilities.
Frey Commodities said it will operate the facility exclusively for at least six years, and Ports America Chesapeake expects the first 200 containers to move through in September. World Grain adds that Green Acres Milling is set to begin operating an oat mill with annual production capacity of 39,420 tonnes of finished oat products.
