Bitcoin stays above $77,000 despite weaker private hiring data

ADP said private employers added 38,000 jobs in August, while bitcoin dominance held around 57.9% and the total crypto market value fell to $2.67 trillion.

Bitcoin held above $77,000 through the Asian and European sessions and into early U.S. trading Wednesday after a weaker private hiring report did not dent expectations for a September Federal Reserve rate increase, The Defiant reports. In the latest move, bitcoin was last quoted at $77,038, down 1.0% over 24 hours and 1.7% over seven days, after trading in a $76,298 to $77,930 range, according to CoinGecko data cited by the outlet.

Ether traded at $2,392.94, down 1.89% over 24 hours, while XRP fell 2.59% to $1.33. Other majors were mixed to lower, with Solana down 2.34% to $99.02 and BNB flat at $686.17, as the broader crypto market tracked equities lower.

The outlet links the relative resilience in bitcoin to rate-market positioning after the ADP report. Polymarket priced a quarter-point September hike at 59% after the data, up from 57% on Tuesday, with the 10-year Treasury yield sitting at its highest level since January 2025, while gold rose 0.84% and the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.29%.

ADP reported private employers added 38,000 jobs in August, down from 44,000 in July, with base pay up 3.2% year over year and gross pay up 4.7%, per the release. Total crypto market value was $2.67 trillion, down 1.68% over 24 hours on $81.75 billion of volume, and bitcoin dominance stood at 57.9%.
