Bitcoin slips below $80,000 as oil nears $100 after Saudi outages

Bitcoin was around $78,300 at press time, down 1.5% in 24 hours, while Brent traded near $98.6 after attacks halted some Saudi energy facilities.

Bitcoin traded below $80,000 on Sept. 8, with prices pressured by oil moving toward $100 a barrel after fresh disruptions to Saudi energy facilities, according to CryptoSlate. At press time, bitcoin was near $78,300, down 1.52% over 24 hours, though still up 20% over the past 30 days. The latest concern is the timing gap between inflation data and the new energy shock. CryptoSlate noted that the Bureau of Labor Statistics scheduled the August Consumer Price Index for Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, which reflects August prices and would not capture the Sept. 8 disruption; the next CPI reading is not scheduled until Oct. 14. Brent crude futures touched $99.46 a barrel before trading at $98.63 around press time, after spot Brent briefly hit $101 intraday. CryptoSlate said Reuters reported operations at some Saudi energy facilities halted Tuesday following attacks by Yemen's Houthi movement, citing Saudi authorities.
