Silverstein Properties CEO Lisa Silverstein anchors 2 World Trade Center
The groundbreaking for the 2 million-square-foot tower comes as Silverstein Properties oversees a $1.1 billion fund raised since 2022 and continues to expand Silverstein Capital Partners.
Commercial Observer reports that Lisa Silverstein, CEO and vice chairman of Silverstein Properties, met with media on July 7 shortly after the groundbreaking of the 2 World Trade Center office tower. The event kicked off construction of a final office tower that American Express will anchor, following participation from New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Port Authority leaders, and American Express executives.
The article says the 2 World Trade Center project is expected to mark the near closing of the rebuilt World Trade Center office campus that her father, Larry Silverstein, vowed to rebuild after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. It also notes that Lisa Silverstein succeeded Marty Burger in 2023 and has kept a lower public profile while leading the company.
Beyond Manhattan, Commercial Observer writes that Silverstein Properties is managing projects across the country through the Cantor Silverstein Opportunity Zone Trust, which has raised $1.1 billion since 2022. The company is also continuing the growth of its lending arm, Silverstein Capital Partners.
The piece adds that Silverstein has faced setbacks during her tenure, including a failed $7 billion casino proposal on the West Side last year and the pause of development on 5 World Trade Center earlier this year, which it attributes to escalating construction costs.
