Hong Kong appoints Bryan Chan to lead new gold clearing system
Chan Ping-keung will start Oct. 2 and serve a three-year term as CEO of HKPMCC, which is tasked with clearing and settling over-the-counter gold trades.
Hong Kong has appointed Bryan Chan Ping-keung, a former executive at bourse operator Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, as chief executive to lead the development and operation of the city’s new central clearing and settlement system for gold, according to SCMP Economy.
Chan will head Hong Kong Precious Metals Central Clearing, a wholly government-owned entity established in January to run the precious metals clearing system. His appointment takes effect on Oct. 2 and is for a three-year term.
The government said Chan is expected to deliver efficient and reliable clearing and settlement services for over-the-counter gold transactions, working with industry participants and collaborating with officials to build an international-standard gold trading ecosystem.
Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury and chairman of HKPMCC, said he was confident in Chan’s leadership.
