West Kowloon arts hub deficit rises to HK$998 million in 2025-26
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority said revenue climbed 19.0% to HK$768 million, but higher operating costs ahead of the WestK Performing Arts Centre pushed the deficit above the prior year.
Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District Authority reported that its deficit widened to HK$998 million in the 2025-26 financial year, compared with HK$769 million in the same period a year earlier, according to an SCMP Economy article citing a document submitted to Hong Kong’s Legislative Council.
The authority said the increase was mainly driven by higher operating costs as it prepared to open the new WestK Performing Arts Centre, scheduled to open in autumn 2027.
Revenue rose 19.0% to HK$768 million in 2025-26, helped by growth in ticket sales, sponsorship, and sales of intellectual property and creative products.
The CEO, Betty Fung Ching Suk-yee, said the deficit remains within control, below HK$1 billion, and the authority expects additional revenue next year from upfront fees tied to a residential project it plans to put out to tender.
